3D Real-Time Magnetic Particle Imaging of Cerebral Blood Flow in Living Mice
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction Magnetic particle imaging (MPI) is a new tomographic imaging modality that directly and quantitatively images the concentration of iron oxide nanoparticles without anatomical background signal [1]. It combines high sensitivity [2,3] with the ability of fast volumetric imaging. Recently, 3D real-time MPI of the blood flow through the heart and lung of mice has been demonstrated [4] using a clinically approved MRI contrast agent. In this contribution, the cerebral blood flow in living mice is imaged, revealing dynamic information at a rate of 46 volumes per second.

Magnetic particle imaging (MPI) is a new medical imaging approach that is based on the nonlinear magnetization response of super-paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIOs) injected into the blood stream. To date, real-time MPI of the bolus passage of an approved MRI SPIO contrast agent injected into the tail vein of living mice has been demonstrated. However, nanoparticles are rapidly remove...
متن کاملEffects of non-newtonian properties of blood flow on magnetic nanoparticle targeted drug delivery
Objective(s): One applications of nanotechnology is in the area of medicine which is called nanomedicine. Primary instruments in nanomedicine can help us to detect diseases and used for drug delivery to inaccessible areas of human tissues. An important issue in simulating the motion of nanoparticles is modeling blood flow as a Newtonian or non-Newtonian fluid. Sometimes blood flow is simulated ...
متن کاملReal-time, multidimensional in vivo imaging used to investigate blood flow in mouse pancreatic islets.
The pancreatic islets of Langerhans are highly vascularized micro-organs that play a key role in the regulation of blood glucose homeostasis. The specific arrangement of endocrine cell types in islets suggests a coupling between morphology and function within the islet. Here, we established a line-scanning confocal microscopy approach to examine the relationship between blood flow and islet cel...

Susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) has continued to develop into a powerful clinical tool to visualize venous structures and iron in the brain and to study diverse pathologic conditions. It is a new art which evaluates and exploits the properties of blood, iron and other tissues. It is a magnitude or filtered phase images or combination of both, obtained with high-resolution 3D fully velocit...
